This collection focuses on the direct interpretation of the ingredient. By manipulating the surface using heat, embroidery or pigment, a wide collection of ‘rice’ inspired fabrics have been created.
The white/white subtle designs are enhanced by surrounding textures which are stimulated by ones sense. Through touch, one feels a sense of density that is related to the heavy weight of rice as starch ingredient. This concept of weight is translated through a floor covering of raw rice.
By using different types of grain, various textures are introduced to the dining audience. Wild rice has a very different form to that of risotto rice, this difference has been developed through the designing of table top surfaces in comparison the delicate form of a napkin. By purely interpreting the ingredient, consideration of scale becomes an effective way of varying surface quality and composition.
